• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

5th GJ Question.....

Battalion Commander
Hi all,
Very simple question. Did the soldiers of the 5th wear the cap Edelweiss with the unit badge or did they wear it in place of the Edelweiss?
If they wore both, where did they place the unit badge?
Hope to hear from someone on this,
GJ

Hi Ric,

I have my 5th Gebirgs Sani's divisional insignia just behind the edelweiss on the cap. I know I had seen a photo reference or read somewhere that this was the location where it was worn. The info may have come from Nomad when I bought the insignia. Sorry I can't remember the source with certainty.

Jamie

As Jamie stated, the Gamsbock, or any other GJ unit emblem, would be worn usually behind the Edelweiss...though I have seen some pins in front.

Hurra die Gams!

I looked through my Headgear of Hitler's Germany Vol1 by Halcomb & Saris and it shows several unit emblems worn with the Edelweiss, some in front of the Edelweiss some behind. One worn in front was the "Enzian" badge. The Hochgebirgs-Kompanie 1, eagle feathers were presented to their men as the eagle feathers were the sign of this unit.

Hi Harold,

Do you know if placement of the badges was at the discretion of the individual or was it decided on a unit basis?

Jamie

It doesn't really say, I would say it would be a unit thing, but I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. Maybe the guru's over on the WAF forum might have a more definate idea
