• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

The rope on the airborne

Philster

Rifleman
Hello guys and girls

This is my first post here on the forum as I usually post on OSS, the chaps at OSS have directed me towards you guys.

I'm looking to see what the white coil rope that the 101st jumped on market garden was used for and where it was attached

Also i mentioned before but would there be any time that a Sgt. would carry a bandoleer for the rifles as well as his own Thompson ammo

Many thanks in advance

well the rope was used for anything but i believe , and may be mistaken, it was attacked to the web gear near the shoulder and they had it incase they were stuck in a tree they would climb down on that insted of cutting thier lines and then falling... it was not only in market garden... and all airborne would carry bandoleers cause they had to be able to fight on their own with out help for a sustained amount of time

Hi Phil and welcome to the Sixth Army Group!
As said above the rope was I believe , intended to be used to assist troops in descending if caught up in trees or buildings when landing. It was used in Normandy too...a picture is worth a thousand words however.

and whilst this guy has an M3, you can clearly see the rifle ammo bandolier being carried. Airborne would also carry belts for the .30cal MG used by their squad.

Hope this helps!
