Panzer II Guidance Please

Hi guys,

Itís been a really long time since Iíve posted here. Went through a divorce and havenít had much time for my various hobbies. Getting back into 1/6 and N scale model railroading with my kids. I have a few projects on the bench. A mostly complete DAK Kubelwagen, a 30% finished DAK Beetle, a Sdkfz. 250 that I havenít started on, just to name a few. I recently purchased a Dragon Panzer II kit. Itís the ausf. C. My goal is to build it into an ausf. F with RC in AfrikaKorps livery. Would appreciate links to any threads here on SAG that may be useful and any good advice that anyone may have.

Thanks in advance.

Jamie

Re: Panzer II Guidance Please

I have some extra Panzer IIC left over from my Bison and Marder builds parts you can have to ease your build.

Shoot me your address in a pm and I'll send you some parts.

Re: Panzer II Guidance Please

Thanks guys! Hammer your PzII build gives me a lot of inspiration, as mine will be DAK as well. Pangaea the one you linked to is a beautiful well done piece. My son and I are eager to get started on this one!

Thanks again,

Jamie

Re: Panzer II Guidance Please

When I was looking for references for mine, I found that the Achtung Panzer series has book no. 7 on the Panzer 1 & 2. An example is here, but you can find it for a LOT cheaper if you're patient and shop around. https://www.ebay.com/itm/PanzerKampf...EAAOSwfAheYj2Y

Re: Panzer II Guidance Please

I'm just about to start on a DAK PzII and thinking of going with an upgraded ausfC(have seen some images of this alternative in real lufe), instead of an ausf F. What is holding me back from the F is the rear idler. In the link to the inxsone build I can't make out the idler. So those who have made a F, what did you do with the idler?

Re: Panzer II Guidance Please

I have the Achtung Panzer book mentioned above, overrated and over priced imo. I have many books on the Panzer II, I recommend the Panzer Tracts series for the best info and pictures in regards to details and specs. The up armored Ausf C and the Ausf F are very similar, but there are some very specific differences, the turret angles being one of them. But don't let that shy you away, most just used the DML turret as it looks close enough, more than happy to share info n pic's, feel free to message with questions

Re: Panzer II Guidance Please

I would use the C turret, with the extra armor removed from the front and adding the pieces on the mantlet, which I have. The idler is my biggest hurdle. I imagine you could remove some of the ribs from the C idler and make it look like the F idler, but was wondering if anyone made that piece as such.

My plans are to do a "super C" with the front of a C, but with the two fender bins and the turret bin. Not sure if such a combination was ever made. I have seen some upgraded C, but none with the turret bin and the two large fender bins.

Re: Panzer II Guidance Please

I modified the idler on the "B" model to resemble the "F". Wasn't hard to do and while it may not be perfect, it looks close enough. It wasn't hard to do at all with the existing idler that comes with the kit.
