Puppchen Build

I bought this kit a while back. Saw a few things that needed to be corrected. I started with the trigger housing. I added the rear sight.

Re: Puppchen Build

Thanks. Worked on the breach block tonight. It should be solid, not hollow. Also, The Puppchen is primer fired so it has a hammer (similar to a gun). This has been left off the Dragon gun. It should also have the trigger/hammer linkage on the left side of the breach block. Sorry for the band-aid. Just bought a new Exacto knife and apparently I tried to sharpen it with my thumb. I do not recommend doing this!

Re: Puppchen Build

Did a little more work tonight.
The front sight should have two inner tabs, not one.

This next part is also wrong. It should be a two-piece bracket, not a single one.

This part will fit in between the above bracket.

The side supports should be solid, not hollow.

Re: Puppchen Build

I built one years back a nice kit Rob.

Yours looks killer so far. Rob

Even won a Bronze medal 2 or 3 years back.

Steve used to have the decal for the shield.

And that great guy Eduardo sent me tires instead of the skids.

Cheers

Re: Puppchen Build

Jeff,
Congratulations on the medal. I purchase the decal from PanzerWerks a few months ago. It looks great. Can't wait to get it put on. I bought a German Infantry Cart a while back from another SAG member and will be mounting those wheels on the Puppchen. I hope they will mount up without too much trouble.

Re: Puppchen Build

More Upgrades. I wanted to correct the travel lock.
This is where the locking pin will go through.

Of course, to do this, I had to extend the locking pin.

I also had to correct the travel lock.

I had to drill a hole for the travel lock.

This is my best guess as to how to should actually look.

Added these two brackets.

Here is how it all looks together.

I also made the part that fits into the brackets. Not sure what it is, but my best guess is it may be part of the cleaning rods.

Re: Puppchen Build

Thanks for looking. Its a lot of fun doing the research (what little I can find) and doing these builds.

Here are a couple of shots of the front .

i also wanted to improve the cleaning rods. I didn't really care for the "molded" look so I made my own. I kept the original front latch, but made my own rear bracket.

Here is a shot of the breach block mounted. I had to make a hole for the hammer linkage to go through.

The funnel at the front of the barrel is supposed to be held in place with a clamp that has two bolts at the bottom. This has been left off the kit so I added them.

Re: Puppchen Build

Thank you.
This time I corrected some things with the front shield. I had to move the two inner tie-down loops a little further to the outside of the shield. These shelves are for transporting two ammo boxes. The two inner tie-down loops are too far inwards. They would have been directly under the ammo boxes.

The white strip below represents an ammo box. You can see where I had to move the loops.

The next thing that needed to be corrected are the two support braces at the top of the shield's backside. The two at the top are not supposed to be wing bolts. They should have simple rods in them. This is for the shield to hook into. The only two wing bolts are at the bottom of the shield.

Here are the two pieces I made for the top braces of the shield. They are welded to the gun support arms.

This is pretty much what it should look like.

Re: Puppchen Build

Well, at it again. This time I corrected the rocket rounds. The kit comes with the wrong rounds. It comes with panzershrek rounds. The Puppchen rounds are shorter and primer fired. Panzershrek rounds are longer and electrically fired.

Here is a comparison of the two rounds.

I also corrected the breach handle. The handle that comes with the kit does not allow the breach door to open far enough to insert a round. Below is the handle I made.

Re: Puppchen Build

More upgrades. The next thing I needed to do was to correct the peg sticking down at the rear of the trigger housing. it is supposed to be the trigger.

After cutting off the peg, I had to thin out the housing so I filed it down as thin as I could.

Then I cut a slot in the platform for the trigger to go through. Then I made the trigger bar. It is supposed slide along the housing and go through the slot.

The next thing I corrected is the trailer hitch loop. The one that came with the kit is waaaay too small. I made one that fits on the Kettenkrad hitch.

Re: Puppchen Build

Well, here it is. I'm done. I'm still going to make more rockets. I'm also going to try to make a couple of ammo crates. The range plate is a decal from PanzerWerks.
Bob

Here you can see how far the breach door opens now. Before, it would only open halfway.

In this one, you can see the hammer in the cocked position.

In this one, you can see the difference between the Dragon hitch loop and the one I made.

This one shows the gun locked for traveling.

The barrel of the gun was too heavy and kept falling forward. I glued a watch battery to it. Now the gun sits level.

Re: Puppchen Build

What a wonderful build.

Your modifications and additions are a superb example of what this hobby can achieve. You have made a simple outline model from Dragon into something much, much more.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to clearly show just what you have done and how you have made your modifications. a Very inspirational build thread.

Thanks
Dan

Re: Puppchen Build

Thank you. I'm thinking of setting up a small dio with a couple of fallschirmjagers manning this gun, but I want to try and make the ammo crates. This is what I have so far. I still need to make the rope handles and install the two hinges and front latch.

Re: Puppchen Build

Bob,

Agreed with what Dan said - you've taken a model, corrected the errors, and documented it well. This thread is great for anyone else looking to upgrade their Puppchen!

I hope you do the dio with the Fallschirmjäger crew! I think it will look sharp!

Re: Puppchen Build

Thanks Jeff. An 88mm would be nice. I wish Dragon would come back and start making some new kits instead of releasing/rehashing things that have already been made. I would like to see them make separate engines for the Kett, Jeep and 250. The pre-made vehicles came with engines, but the kits did not. I would also like to see them make a Jeep trailer. I'm still working on the ammo crates for the Puppchen rounds. I stopped for a while so I could make a tow bar for a German infantry cart I got from Cyber-Hobby. I'll post those later.

Re: Puppchen Build

Sorry for taking so long on this. I've had to go out of state for my work a lot lately. The last time, I got real sick. I've been down and out for a while. Below is as far as I have been able to get on the ammo crates. I was working on the ammo crates and the infantry cart at the same time. This is my very first attempt at making something out of balsa wood.

Below is the Infantry Cart I finally received from Cyber Hobby after waiting 8 weeks. The top front rail was broken. No big deal for that, but having the tow bar missing was the last straw. I fixed the top rail and made a new tow bar. The real cart had 3 different tow bars. One was curved, one was straight. These two were vehicle tow bars. The third was one that was pulled by hand. I made the straight vehicle bar. What made me so mad is they refused to do anything about this after waiting 8 weeks!!!
Here is a picture of what I received. The top rail has been fixed, but as you can see, the tow bar is completely missing.

Here is the tow bar I made.

Here are my two carts. The one on the right is what I was supposed to receive the second time I ordered one. The one on the left has the straight tow bar I made. I made the the tow loop able to fit the Dragon Kettenkrad..

Thanks guys. just got back from doing another job out of state.
Jeff - Once I found out what PhotoBucket was pulling, I saved the photos from my PAK build to either a disc or a flash drive. I'll look for it and let you know. It will only have pictures, no words.

Jeff,
I still have not found the disc or flash drive yet, but I know its around here somewhere (my wife had gotten out so much stuff for the holidays and boxes are everywhere). PM me with your address so I can send the flash drive (with the photos on it) to you when I find the original files.
