THE LAST DROP: OPERATION VARSITY

2ND BATTALION
507TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY REGIMENT
17TH AIRBORNE DIVISION

DIERSFORDT, GERMANY

24 MARCH 1945




Operation Varsity, taking place 74 years ago today (March 24th) - below are the photos of my Operation Varsity display from the SSCC's 11th Annual FIGURECON at Entertrainment Junction from over this past weekend:




Dio write-up - the 17th Airborne patch is an original and the swatch of US camo 'chute was cut from a 'chute used by the 17th Airborne from the Varsity jump.


Special Thanks to the following people:

- Josh (JOSH51st) for the gift of the original 17th Airborne patch

- Dick (Hammer Six) for loaning me the Bobby Dalto custom telephone pole from his collection for the weekend

- Jos Bex for sending me the swatch of the camo 'chute from Varsity

Just realized that those silly silver bulbs they had hanging from the ceiling, the way you photographed it in the back drop, almost look like sticks of chutes from other aircraft.

Dick - yeah - I wasn't too happy with their presence in my photos but I like your explanation for them. Sort of a saving grace in some ways.

Awesome work Fred (and as a sidenote...wow regards the venue...wish we had venues dedicated to 1/6th like that over here in Oz)...particularly like the way you've captured the uniqueness of airborne combat load carriage and differences. Cheers for sharing, Steve
