I know a lot of folks will love the fact that the real vehicles will be used instead of a dummy or made-over vehicle (some of which are well done)....but we all know from early war movies that seeing the Germans roll in in American tanks sort of ruins it a bit. Looking forward to seeing this.

Gez.. this is going to ruin all those great old war movies that used Patton tanks as German armor, and the good ole Tiger upper hull on a T-34 lower hull.

Next, some one is going to tell me that General Patton doesn't really look like George C. Scott.

Oh well,

The reason they can use made over tanks in movies is because most people can't tell the difference. It's collectors and modelers that can see the differences. Same goes for aircraft, a lot of times they substitute the bf108 for 109's, or other American jets for Russian jets.

Harold, i dont think thats the reason. I saw movies as a kid and even then i realized that the tanks werent german. It was probably more along the lines of what was available en mass.

Re: 'Last' WW2 Tiger 131 tank to be used in Brad Pitt film

Its a bit of both actually , a lot depends on the Art Director and the set guys and the director themselves , Budgets and availability of said vehicles, guns ,or planes .
Its not just one factor that plays , in a modern sense , if you have seen the Movie Lord of War , there is a scene with a line up of Russian tanks , they filmed it in Czechoslovakia and they were all real tanks lined up for sale to another country they just rented them for the day , similar is the scene in the AK warehouse , if you notice many of the guns in the racks are Czech VZ 58 not AK's even though Nicholas Cage is holding a AK , its what they had close and reasonable for their budget , And yes most folks would not know a VZ 58 from a AKM .
So its a combination of things that decide .

Re: 'Last' WW2 Tiger 131 tank to be used in Brad Pitt film

Back in the 60s and early 70s filmmakers in Europe who wanted WWII German kit would go to Spain, where they had all the original stuff the Germans gave them during the war. Many movies from this period had scads of Me-109s and HE111s along with tanks and fully uniformed troops.

Re: 'Last' WW2 Tiger 131 tank to be used in Brad Pitt film

The movie Tora Tora Tora! used North American AT-6 / SNJ's and modified them to appear as Japanese aircraft. Top Flite, a maker of R/C balsa kits even produced a kit of these aircraft and called them "Hollywood Zero's".

It always annoyed me with a movie or TV show when one type of aircraft was shown and another type entirely was used showing the guns firing. Seemed like a favorite was showing Mustangs and then showing a P-47 firing the guns, and then back to the Mustang.

Although I noticed these, many non-historian or non-modeler people did not, as was noted in an earlier posting.

Re: 'Last' WW2 Tiger 131 tank to be used in Brad Pitt film

I have read that when filming To " Hell and Back " that Audie Murphy was pissed because they did not have any M-10s on hand to be shot in the movie.

So they made do with a Sherman ( On the back of a burning M-10 Murphy earned his Medal of Honor )

Seems that he did not mind using the Pershings as German tanks.

The 109's used in the Battle of Britain movie were Spanish 109's, the Spanish 109's had Rolls Royce engines in them instead of the Daimler Benz engines. Same applied to the Spanish He111's they had Rolls Royce engines in them in place of the Jumo engines. Dispite that, it still was a great movie

Re: 'Last' WW2 Tiger 131 tank to be used in Brad Pitt film

Nice to see a proper tank being used in a film for a change, just a shame it's got Brad Pitt in as it's bound to be rubbish. Can't stand the feller or his missus.

George Patton is George c Scott. We were just told that he was dead. His face changed as a result of the surgery to save his life. He became an actor after the war.
