Looking for an image or reference PzII B in DAK

I know it is a stretch, but I was wondering if any Ausf B PxII, with rounded fron, no extra armour on turret and old style commander's hatch made it to Afrika in 1941.
I have an Ausf B that could end up as a 1939 Poland tank, or a non upgraded tank in Africa, which would be a lot more fun!

Right now the balance is leaning heavily toward the 1939 version...

From what I've read and saw pictures of.... if it was running and serviceable it was used till it was broke down or destroyed

Re: Looking for an image or reference PzII B in DAK

True, but in the case of PzII there were also "converted".
And by 1941 most had been coverted, so an Ausf B in Afrika had to have fallen through the cracks of conversion and then mustered into service.
That is why I say it is a long shot.
I have looked at books and searching the net and have found none...

Re: Looking for an image or reference PzII B in DAK

I have many books and videos on the North African Campaign and I don't ever remember seeing a picture of a Panzer II in the Afrika Korps. I'll look some more. If I find a picture I will let you know.........Hammer

David, the very well known photo of Panzer II with black or red eight on the turret is a Panzer II C. There were no Panzer II J in the DAK.

Re: Looking for an image or reference PzII B in DAK

Thanks for the input guys!
Poland wins! Many interesting images and can even go with the pre-war /early war brown camo. White crosses, dirtied up and some hand painted numbers. It will not have much in the way of support from any of my other vehicles, but it will be interesting.
I have a C that will go nicely with all the other 1941 window pieces...
I sure thought Dragon would do an F, but I guess that the B and C versions are it.
Thanks again!

No luck all finding what you were hoping for. All I can find is the uparmored Panzer IIs in all my books and videos......Hammer

Re: Looking for an image or reference PzII B in DAK

Thanks Hammer.

Darling, definitely going to Poland with this project. Will probably do a two color camo as you did.

I put the brakes on the project as I realized the DML kit came without the front tow hooks! I made one for France a while back and did not notice the lack of front tow hooks. I imagine you have researched the PzII for your build, so I was wondering if there were any WITHOUT the tow hooks. otherwise I'm surprised that DML left them off and that no one seemed to m ention it when the first early PzII (pre-built) version was released!

TIA

Re: Looking for an image or reference PzII B in DAK

Hi Eduardo,

DML 'overlooked' these tow hooks I bought a set from Toyriffic. I got the kit (it was a easy to assemble) as it was much easier than trying to scratchbuild them.

I'll have a look through my pre/early war pictures but I dont recall seeing any vehicles without these. I'll post what I find.

Cheers

Re: Looking for an image or reference PzII B in DAK

Hi Eduardo,

I can't find a picture of a 'round front' Pz II B without these tow hooks on the front.

I'd be surprised if any didn't have them coming off the production line because if (probably read when here) these broke down they'd be necessary for recovery.

Cheers

Re: Looking for an image or reference PzII B in DAK

Thanks
Waiting for some of the tow hooks from Mike, for my previous build and for the Poland future build. Can't believe I missed this before!

Hi Eduardo,

You can't go wrong with those two hooks from Mike.

Also congratulations on 2,000 posts! Crikey, I joined this forum a year before you and I'm only on 50 I think I need to pick up my game...

Cheers
