• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

Ba-64 kit - build

fusilier1944

Company Commander
Not to derail the other thread about the kit any further, decided it was time to start my own thread. Building this kit as much as stock as possible. I plan to run a wood frame under this one and use straight axles with no steering mechanism. Looking about 13.5” wheelbase. Front fender area is kind of wonky right now.

This design came from a paper model so I made choices about what edges to butt & what to bevel. This led to certain misalignments. I had to add a bit to parts labeled 7 & 8 on the upper hull. I reworked parts 11 & 12 under the front fenders as well. I had a part labeled 29 that appears to be a bulkhead in the front engine area. I may have put it in the wrong place so had to modify that on the fly. There are no louvers in the front engine area, but plenty of scrap on the sprue to make my own.

Working on a wooden frame to go underneath. Also attached the doors with resin hinges. Same for the hood. Hood handle is just heat bent styrene. I also reworked & attached the driver’s visor. I added extra bits to the V guard in front of the turret. The small ports on the side had a thin strip added around. The port covers will work like the real ones. Not attached yet. I relocated the slits on the turret and plugged the holes in the doors. I have wheels on order and a DT mg coming from China.

The hinges are leftover from my resin casting days. Back when I was making Marder parts. I made a master and molded it. Whenever I’d cast anything, the extra resin went in the hinge mold. They are crude & require cleaning up. But I’ve always had enough for my projects.

Thanks for the affirmation.

Working on the first, functional door latch.

Made from leftover scraps from the kit/sprue and some styrene rod.

Following this with interest. I also have a DT coming from a place in China, but I think it may be a scam site. Where are you getting yours?
Bob

My DT is coming from eBay seller “giftofangel” and the tracking is updating regularly.

The wheels i ordered, on the other hand, might have been a scam. That was MonkeyHobby who have a hit or miss reputation. Supposed to ship in a few days & be here by DHL in a week. That is overly optimistic. Haven’t shipped. No order updates. I’ll give them a couple weeks. Thankfully I have the protection of PayPal.

Minimal work lately. Made a dashboard. It’s a start. The wheels were delivered. Had them shipped elsewhere. Picking them up next weekend.

The MG from eBay is looking like the scam now. They sent a customs form (claim this is because it looks like a gun) & claim the product will ship separately. Well the tracking went with the form so it shows as delivered. Maybe something else will show up but now I have no way to fight it with PayPal.

Sorry to hear about your DT purchase. I can't find one anywhere so I'm going to give it a shot at making one.
Bob

I also bought two of the same ones, so I will make them at the next timing

Can’t wait to see your build YAS!

Opened the wheels today:

I’m am happy with my purchase from MonkeyHobby. Took longer than i would have liked, but they came through. I also bought a Jeep steering wheel.

I'm always envious of the scratch-building efforts of those on the SAG and your build is definitely further proof of that, looking forward to seeing the finished product. Thanks for sharing, Steve

Says the guy who has single-handedly kept the figure/diorama side of this hobby alive here for the last few years. 😆

In other news: it looks like the DT did actually ship and could be delivered next week. Tracking number was finally provided and the shipment has unfortunately sat in ISC NY for a month. Now it sits in Queens. Another postal abyss.
