• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

Fallschirmjager Qs.

10th-SS_PzDiv

Machine Gunner
1.From D-day, to the end of the war, did the FJs fight mixed in with other battalions? (SS, Panzer Grenadier ext.)

2. Was there uniforms all of the one issued through-out the war, or just splinter camo?

3.Were the trousers issued the same ones ground forces had? (Wehrmacht)

Thanks in advance!! :-P

1 - If you mean were FJ posted into other units , the short answer is no. They did operate in conjunction with other units in close co-operation and under command of other units , as post Crete there were no large sclae airdrops of FJ and they fought mostly as ground infantry. Also , by the latter stages of the war most new drafts of FJ were not jump qualified and could include trrops transferred in from other Luftwaffe units.

2 - No, there are different versions of FJ camo eg, splinter or marsh, and in the later stages of the war they were seen to wear more oand more regular infantry items of uniform and equipment, such as Luft FD splinter camo jackets,GJ jackets, standard infantry boots or mountain boots.standard metal gasmask containers, infantry stahlhelms etc

3 - FJ had their own uniform trousers , obvious by the cut and items like the gravity knife pocket at the knee.

( just a note , Fallschirmjager were part of the Wehrmacht which comprised of the Heer or infantry,Luftwaffe and Kreigsmarine. These were the regular armed forces of Germany. A distinction is drawn between Wehrmacht forces and those such as the Waffen SS which were originally a politically controlled paramilitary and not under OKW control)

As a trivia sidenote to Kev's amazing knowledge,

Wehrmacht literally standed for Defense Force.
The entire German Army was therefor seen as a Defense Force.
(Again, Kev told you all the rest :P)

Kev's right about the fact that many Fallschirmjager were not qualified. By January 1945, the Germans created the 9th Parachute Div. This 'Fallschimjager unit really consisted of conscripted teenagers, Luftwaffe Flak crews, other misc ground personel. And throughout the Italian Campaign kept many items taken while stationed in North Africa and Sicily. In Italy, Monte Cassino and afterwards, some Fallschirmjager wore mountain smocks.

Woops!
I forgot to clear something on that point. The 9th Parachute Div was created along Germany's Eastern provinces to try and stop the Russian onslaught. In typing quickly I forgot to mention that I was referring to the 1st and 4th Fallschirmjager Div in regards to the Italian Theater uniforms and equipment.
