• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

Gebirgsjäger Mittens

Heeresbergführer

Company Commander
Servus Sixty Driver und Bergkameraden,

Don't tell me you knit in 1/6th scale too!!!!

Well here is a great painting of General Dietl...don't look at his hands! :)

Happy knitting und Horrido!

PS...if you knit a pair...knit a second pair for me! I'll post some 1/1 scale mittens later this evening.

Finally got the my Reindeer Mittens scanned:

Be careful about what you wish for Patrick 8-) The scan will come in super handy, in the mean time I have some itty bitty knitting needles to build. :-P

Servus Sixty,

Well, after you finish making your knitting needles and knitting the Reindeer mittens, you can make me a pair of these mittens:

I think the guy next to the Gebirgsjäger is a Croatian soldier.

Knit-Ho! Und Horrido!

Okay, I lied about the knitting needles.

Seriously thought, I am thinking about using something like the material used for cross stitching. It "could" look like a scale knit, then it's just a simple (or not) process of coloring the "x"es. I will make the attempt and if successful, you can count on your own pair. :)

I think I have an idea, maybe it works too

The design in the pic from Heeresbergführer could
be printed on wool from socks or another knitted material,
with transfer paper, then cut out and then sew together
in the same style of LAH Lothar's mittens.

Happy knitting...

Greetz from Holland, Anouk :-P

They look pretty cool! It’s possible they could be embroidered on a soft cloth. I just saw a demonstration of a sewing machine that has a built in computer that can easily embroider 1/6th scale patches. Unfortunately it costs over $5000.00 but if you know anyone who embroiders they might be able to do it by hand. You can down load the scan print it on cloth and do the embroidery right over the print.

Almost fogot this question, Were those something that was issued or did the soldiers have to supply the mittens themselves. I am assuming they are not German military issue. LOL

With Xmas looming I think I may have to make a pair with St Nick on one hand and Krampus on the other. Krampus was the German antithesis of Santa in the old days and seems like an appropriate mascot for such daring troops as the GJ's. :)
