• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

Images on my PC have been hijacked???

egonzinc

Brigade Commander
Today when I was looking for an old file I found that most of my old word files and most if not all of my images are encrypted in a way I can't open them!

I have those images on a hosting site, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has had the same experience and knows a solution.
Apparently it is something called
RSA-2048 and AES-128

Googled it and I got a site that is maybe a solution called Enigma Software,
but maybe is a trap!
So please if you have any idea of what this is, please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you have become a victem of ransomware. Here is a link to a website with (rather technical) instructions on how to remove the infection from a Windows 10 machine.

Be very cautious of using free software as they may actually drag you deeper into the trap.

The best solution is to restore from backup, assuming the infection has not been backed-up also...

Good luck!

Sadly it looks like I have los the images on my pc and all my post files and other research pieces, from the last 15 years or so. The posts are all over the forums, many are in FB and the images are in a hosting site, but my pc's files and images are all gone.
Very sad, but time to move on...

Eduardo...are you using a Windows or Mac system?

If your using Windows you can call their tech department to see if they can help retrieve the data. They have several 'tiers' of techs so if one level can't fix the problem they kick up to the next.

Also check to see if you hsve a Microsoft or Apple store close by ...you can take your computer in ....they have techs on site....downside is you might have to wait a week to get it back. If working on line it may take a day.

If anyone can retrieve data either group can do it.

It is Windows, working on possible solutions, but I have been talking to some familiar with these attacks and it is unlikely I will be able to recover...

Thanks for the suggestions. Will probably end up getting a new pc...
