• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

Steel Dragons and copied Armorpax Parts

armorpax

Battalion Commander
Hi All,

I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year but we are less than a week into it and it has already been marred by clear evidence of more recasting of Armorpax parts.

There has, for some considerable time now, been various statements from other customisers of infringements by Steel Dragons and Richard Tripp, up until now I have never been able to prove anything regarding my parts.

That changed this week with his latest website and ebay offerings of 20 ton jacks in resin or metal.

The offering shows an all resin jack which is clearly identified on the web as being mastered by me.

"We are offering two versions of this popular accessory crafted in either resin or white metal. This is a kit that requires some assembly with simple hand tools, sand paper and your choice of adhesive or epoxy. These items were originally designed by David Dibb and we are fortunate to have recently located a number of them for sale."

The issue comes in that I have only ever produced these with metal fittings. I have spent a number of hours looking at the photos and cannot prove they are resin although the casting flash would suggest they are. The proof came from the main Jack body. In reviewing the pictures a clear top seam can be seen and I have identified this on the pictures below. The Armorpax Jack body is cast from a single piece mould rather than a 2 piece mould and therefore has no top seam. The last 4 pictures show my castings and the moulds to show what I mean.

If anyone has a one of these and confirm the fittings are resin please let me know.

On the Steel Dragons site Richard claims that they are continuing to develop their own parts and move away from "Unreliable vendors", I pressume I am one of the unreliable vendors!!!!

His company profile also states he has a team of people as follows

"we do employ a number of highly skilled artisans who have been instrumental in fueling our growth and success. These talented individuals include resin and white metal casters, a photo etching specialist, a machinist, two electrical engineers ( I kid you not!), a number of dedicated craftsmen specializing in the fabrication of tools, clamps, accessories fashioned from brass, wood, white metal, resin etc,"

As the only photoetched parts I can see on his site are mine why would he need an etcher?????

Further more I can find nothing on his site that isn't produced by either myself, Steve Hoeger at Panzerwerks, Mike Stannard at Sixth Scale Icons, Tim Catton, Steve Winstone etc.. Why, if he is only offering parts created by us, would he need resin and metal casters?

I leave you to make up your own mind but if he is copying my Jack, why not everything else.

We had similar problems with Peddinghaus and a number of other German companies the other year.

I am filing an intellectual property breach with Ebay but have little I can do to stop him in the US. All I can ask is that you the customer stop supporting people like this. I have looked on his order status page and there are names I recognize.

If you continue to support these people all that will happen is the people with the actual talent, who create the originals, will stop supporting the hobby. Then all you will have is people offering old and tired copies and there will be no new parts.

I like most people am finding it more difficult to get through each month with the continuing rising prices and these people may just as well come and take the food straight off my kids plates.

This acceptance of intellectual property theft has to be stopped if you want us to keep doing what we do. The ulimate answer to this problem lies with you the customer. If you choose to continue supporting these people don't be surprised if we get fed up and jack it in.

Regards

Dave

BTW Dave , I dont know how many 250 MG shield you sent him , but he has sold a bunch on ebay over the last few months ...

What is sad to me is seeing the list of folks who are ordering from him even though it has been made very clear what he has been doing , many of these folks are friends and customers I have known for a long time , and yet still help support this guy , I am sorry , but I have strive from day 1 almost 13 years ago to be a honest seller , I dont understand whey these folks would buy from him when everything he offers can be bought elsewhere including direct from the manufactures , instead you support Mr Tripp , which hurts the ones who brought these items too the hobby , very sad to me ......

i would never do business with him. I always support the manufactures.
Do not buy recasting parts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way he has also stolen my pics from my finished Jagdpanzer IV
look at
BRApageone

and my tank- if someone of you could help to to get my right on copyright- thanks

I didn't realize who the auctioneer was until after it was too late. Now that I know who it is, I have nothing to do with his auctions.

Hi Jack,

Thank you, the quickest solution to this is for people to stop buying from him. As Steve has said if you want the real deal and us to keep making new stuff support the good guys and boycott the bad ones.

Hi Guys

Just wanted to add my two cents worth to Dave's post. As you may know I have been trying to bring Tripp's recasting and copying practices to the attention of the hobby for the last two years. Now finally he has shown that he will copy anyone's parts for profit. I will be posting a update on new parts of mine that he has copied/recast in another post later today.

Back to Dave's jack that he has recast. Firstly I would like to state that this is a 10 Ton Jack and not a 20 Ton Jack as claimed by Tripp. Dave will agree with this. I have a sample of Dave's original casting of the Jack which he sent to me in 2007 for me to photo-etch the mounting brackets for the Panzer IV which carried a 10 Ton Jack. Dave made this with both folded and open handle. I have the open handle version. Tripp's recast is the folded handle version.

Considering he is offering a 10 Ton jack as a 20 Ton jack, which he claims is "Historically Accurate", he either has no knowledge on the product he is selling or is trying to deceive customers about the product. For someone that boast to be the largest supplier of parts in the industry, ( Note 95% of the parts he offers can be obtained from the original manufacturers, in most cases at a better price. See Explanation below) The posting of this Jack proves his lack of knowledge or his unethical practices.

He has the original Armorpax 10 Ton Jack advertised on his web site using Armorpax parts number in his Panzer IV section with the open handle design. He is also advertising the same 10 Ton Jack as a 20 Ton jack in is Tiger section. See pictures from his web site below.

Here is a comparison of the Armorpax 10 Ton Jack and my 20 Ton Jack.. You can see that the Armorpax 10 Ton Jack is to small to be a 20 Ton Jack and there is a lot of differences in the detail as there is on the real one. Dave's 10 Ton Jack on a Tiger or Panther would look completely out of place.

This is what happens when someone just copies/recasts a part without doing the research or putting in the time and effort to make their own masters.

Here is a example of his over pricing of parts.

Hi Dave,

Sorry to hear this is still going on.
As you say and we've said before Only buy off the manufacturer PLEASE!
WE all benefit from all the hard work that initially goes into making all these fantastic upgrades and we, as collectors, would all suffer if any of these packed it in.

Thanks Antony

Hi Steve,

Having checked back on invoices I have supplied him with a total of 12 in the last 4 years, in lots of 1,3 or 4 since the beginning of 2009. 5 in 2009 and 7 in 2010. The last order before that was the stock from the show in Vegas 2008 and that was 7.

His listings that still show cover 11 sold in the last 4 months???????????

With the 3 still available for sale we are up to 14.

Thats just EBAY. I have no way of knowing if he has also sold any directly.

Unless we assume he has just kept ordering more stock since Vegas and not selling any the figures are more than a little suspect!

regards

Dave

Just to put this in to context for buyers out there his Ebay prices are, at the current exchange rate, $5 more than from me and I can ship them anywhere in the world for $6 less than his shipping price.

If you buy from me you are not only getting the real deal but you will save $11.00

Your not the only one Dave, FOA Panther is $598 direct from them but $748 from SD. I'd be interested in hearing Loic's opinion of SD as FAO are sold on the SD website and are heavily featured.

Unfortunately not everyone in our hobby visits our forum so maybe an answer is to Invoice SD for loss of business, counterfeiting & mis-selling. Then club together to get a debt collector to pay him a visit.

Thanks Antony

Hi Guys

Just put up my new post on Steel Dragons in the main sticky thread at top of this forum.

Mike

Does anyone know if FOA is even dealing with steel dragons or is this just tripp advertising something then never making good on the sales?
