• Pardon the dust while the boys rebuild the site.

The board will be in a state of disarray as I get things sorted out, for a little while at least.

The new incarnation is using Xenforo as the system software. It is much like what we are used to, with a few differences. I will see about making a FAQ to help point out the differences for the members.

One IMPORTANT difference for all of us old timers is that the 'mail' system is replaced with what are called 'conversations'/

There is no 'Inbox' or 'Out box' or 'Sent' folders anymore.

Think of Conversations as private 'threads' or topics that don't exist in a forum, that you start with another member. NOTE: Conversations can include more than one member if you or someone else in the conversaion, likes.
Takes a little getting used to but I am sure you all can get a hang of it.

Only a slightly modified default default Xenforo style is available for now. Once the new SAG style is ready it will be available.

All existing users should be able to login with their usernames and passwords once the site goes up.

If anyone has difficulties logging in please contact me at sixthvanguard@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and patience. I know it has been a loooong road.

1/6 B17

What a beauty! If only the workshop came with it! Still, it's nice to dream!

Mark.

"Time to button up"

Reese, according to the specs the 1/6 version is 146 inches long and the 1/9 is 98 inches, this pic seems to suggest that it is indeed the 1/6 version - unless they have some oompahloompahs working on it

You have to love large scale R/C!! Would I ever love to have a 1/6th scale bomber. I lean more torwards the B25 but I wouldn't say no to a B17. LOL Where in the hell do you store something like that though? You actually need a 1/6th scale hanger for it. LOL Transportation must be a nightmare as well.

When I was flying RC back in the late 70s, I saw how they transport large planes.

I was driving towards the airfield and noticed a car behind me with something sticking out both sides of the car. When I got to the field the car pulled up too and it was the wings of a E-2 Hawkeye that was approx 1/8 scale cause about 3 foot of the wing was hanging out each side!!!

Not only is this guys shop amazing, but you gotta feel for this guy. He spends so much on his hobby. the poor guy can't affor shoes.

Wow, doing woodwork in a shop barefoot, ouch

TTT

Yeah, you're right, 12 feet would be about scale length. I forget that although I percieve the B17 as HUGE, it was quite small compared to today's bombers (B52 at least).

I had a hard time picturing a waist gunner in that fuselage, but now I see it. They must have been short in real life, or they would be banging their heads. Hard to imagine those leather flight helmets offered too much protection in a bucking and bouncing B17.
