Hermann Goering Division Sicily, 1943
On the July 15, just outside the village of Grammichele, Canadian troops
from the 1st Canadian Infantry Division met its first real resistance
since landing on Sicily on July 10. The division came under fire from
elements of the Hermann Goering Division. The diorama depicts the
preparation of a defensive machine gun position prior to the Canadian
assault. The soldats are digging in just outside of an over grown
village garden. The Grenadier is wiping the sweat from his face and
taking a short break from his digging and filling sand bags while the
Gefreiter is busy cleaning the mg for action.
